Syrup (シロップ) is a monster companion in NewWorld Online and a supporting character in the BOFURI series. As he is Maple's companion, he is affiliated with the Maple Tree guild.
Unlike the companions found on the 7th layer, Syrup hatched from a monster egg.[1] Syrup is one of the mythical beasts that had their eggs hidden in the game.[2]

Syrup is a deep green turtle. After Syrup's first evolution, the pattern on his shell changes a little, and he has grass and flowers growing underneath.[3]
His egg is a deep green.[3]
Personality[]
Syrup is known for being very cute and kind of unsure about the dangerous situations. That said he's always willing to fight for Maple and her guild.
Plot[]
Second Event Arc[]
A pair of eggs were acquired by Maple and Sally after searching the nest of the defeated boss, Silverwing. During their breaks, Maple and Sally used their bodies to incubate the eggs. The green egg Maple chose hatched into a deep green turtle a little bigger than its egg. Maple named him Syrup.[4]
After the event ended, Maple used one of her Medal rewards to acquire the Psychokinesis skill. Along with the Megamorph skill Syrup learned, she was able to change Syrup into a flying transport.[5]
Guild Founding Arc[]
When Chrome wanted to get stronger, Maple lent him Syrup to cheer him on. Not long after, Chrome discovered the Tomb of the Dead. To thank Maple for her support, Chrome put a lot of focus on helping Syrup level up. Syrup learned Cover, Mother Nature, and Spirit Cannon at this time.[6]
Companions Arc[]
After Maple and Sally stumbled upon a key-item orb, they decided to try and discover its purpose. Their search for clues led them to discover a map, and Kanade's wisdom told them about a city. Although the city was in ruins, Maple and Sally could use their key items to teleport to the town where only animals could be seen.[3]
Maple and Sally followed Syrup and Oboro as they moved outside the town to a watering place made of stone. After being put inside the water and pulled out, Syrup evolved. The pattern on his shell changed slightly, and grass and flowers seemed to be growing underneath.[3]
Eighth Event Arc[]
Shortly after the 8th event began, Maple found encountering and defeating monsters difficult. To overcome the buffs and debuffs of the event, Maple relied on an exploit to attract monsters and Syrup's new skills to trap and defeat monsters easily.[7]

Active Skills[]
- Bite:[1] A skill that is an improved bite attack.
- Hibernate:[1] A skill that allows one's companion to rest within the Bridge of Bonds.
- Awaken:[1] A skill that calls one's companion out from the Bridge of Bonds.
- Megamorph: (alt. Enlarge)[8] A skill that increases the user's size. Their HP is doubled.
- Carapace Defense:[4]
- Spirit Cannon:[9] A skill that fires a long-range beam. It can only be used with Megamorph active.
- Mother Nature:[9] A skill that calls upon Earth, Vine, and Trees to Attack and Defend.
- Rampart: (alt. Bastion,[10] Castle wall)[11] A skill that creates destructible walls around a selected position that last up to up to 30 seconds.
- Thorn Shackles: (茨の枷, alt. Path of Thorns)[12] A skill that creates vines like those from Mother Nature that stretch to surround a target before growing thorns that cause a little damage and paralysis.
- Petals of Sleep: (眠りの花弁)[12] A skill that scatters pink petals around and fills the air with a sweet scent. The target appears to lose strength before falling asleep.
- Red Garden: (赤の花園, alt. Red Flower Garden)[13] A skill that generates a field of red flowers and causes all within its range to received 5% more damage. The field is centered on the user and moves with them.
- White Garden: (白の花園, alt. White Flower Garden)[7] A skill that generates a field of white flowers and causes all within its range to suffer a status reduction.
- Sinking Earth: (沈む大地)[7] A skill that makes an area work like quick-sand, swallowing players and monsters alive.
Unique Combinations[]
- Megamorph + owner's Psychokinesis[5]: Syrup becomes large and can be moved somewhat freely. This combination turned Syrup into Maple's personal transport aircraft.
- Rampart + owner's Machine God[14]: This combination was utilized as an attempt at flight. Shortly after, Maple started flying without using Rampart.
Relationships[]
- Maple: Maple is the owner who hatched his egg. She plays with him and helps him grow. She lets him take her everywhere.
- Sally: Sally is the girl who was there when he hatched. She plays with him.
- Oboro: Oboro is a fellow monster companion who hatched at the same time. He plays with him.
- Chrome: Chrome is the guy who helped him get stronger so he could fight alongside Maple.
