NewWorld Online has several events, where the players are given objectives such as material gathering or eliminating each other in order to advance. Most of the in-game events in NewWorld Online are based on rankings, which fuels the competitiveness of the players participating in them.
Because of gaining nigh-impossible achievements some these events, Maple, and by extension Maple Tree, gained infamy within the world of NewWorld Online, as well as in its player community.
First Event[]
The first event in NewWorld Online was a battle royale that pit players against each other, though they can join forces in order to defeat a common enemy, such as the case with the event's top three, Payne, Dred and Maple.
Due to Maple's desire to gain a memento in the event, as she is a sucker for collectibles, she strived to earn a spot in the top ten.
Plot[]
During the event, Maple received no deaths, was never inflicted damage and defeated 2028 players alone with her player-eating shield.[1] Near the end of the event, the top three's positions were disclosed to other players with the claim that the killer would claim a third of their current points. In the end, no change in the placement of the top three was observed.
Final Ranking[]
It is noted that it was slightly unfair that the three top ranking player's positions were disclosed to everyone when all ten players had the same reward. It wasn't enough to stop their rampage, though.
The reward for ranking in the top ten was a gold medal, which will later be used in the second event.
Second Event[]
The second event had the objective of field exploration, taking place on a map that was independent from the actual in-game environment. The map contained regions of varying landscapes and climates that were placed near each other.
As parties were allowed, willing players would be transferred to the event map with their party to a random location. This place would be where the players would be respawned for the duration of the event. In Maple's case, she formed a two-man party with Sally.
The rewards for the event were 300 silver medals and the ten gold medals from the first event. While the silver medals would be scattered around the map in various places that were hard to find or reach, the gold medals would be in the hands of the players who ranked in the top ten during the first event.
Around the environment, access to many dungeons of varying mechanics would be available via entrances or portals. The likelihood of acquiring medals from a chest or boss was significantly higher than finding one laying around the surroundings.
Furthermore, both gold and silver medals would always be dropped on death, provided that you have one.
At the end of the event, players would be able to trade their medals for a skill from a list provided to them. Each skill would either cost one gold medal or ten silver medals.
Sources of medals include:
- Dungeons
- Reward drops and chests
- Overlooked surroundings; such as on the bottom of the mountain or underwater
- Player-versus-player combat; provided that the enemy has a medal
Plot[]
Contrary to what was shown in the anime, Maple and Sally encounter several PK-ers during the event. Furthermore, the book that talks about the Ancient Heart as an item that always drops on death like the medals, and Sally killed for it along with three silver medals.
Boss Monsters[]
Several boss monsters with overwhelming powers were included in the event. Among these include Silverwing, the multiple Sea Emperors and the Earth Dragon.[4] The administrators believed that Maple alone could defeat the Earth Dragon.
Along the trail, Maple stumbled on and fell into a glitched part of a plain, relieving a dungeon that otherwise may have only been accessed through its own secret riddle. The trail lead to the Goblin King.
The avian creature Silverwing was a powerful boss located on a glacier-like environment where players would be teleported from a mountainous area teeming of snow.[5] As the developers had labeled it, the cryptid was the embodiment of the management team's malice. Not only it had a ridiculous amount of HP, it has a skill to guard itself against ranged liquid-based attacks, several powerful attack skills that were either piercing or had terribly high damage.
Even a physical attack with its claw and beak were enough to deal notable damage to Maple, who had an out-of-standard VIT stat. Another skill that gave the creature a black aura further boosted its stats near the end of their fight. Luckily, Maple was able to end the beast with the help of Sally, while also gaining a useful skill thay enabled her to survive an attack with 1HP, [Indomitable Guardian].
Later, they find out the turtle and fox mythical beast eggs that were being guarded by the creature.
The primary Sea Emperor was guarding the bird and wolf mythical beast eggs.[4] Sally found what is likely the portal to the primary Sea Emperor and Kanade willingly entered to scout for Maple and Sally. The destination of the portal was directed underwater and his movements became dull because of Oceania and Ancient Sea. A giant squid that is presumably the Sea Emperor attacked and crushed him before he could do anything.[6]
The minor Sea Emperor that Maple and Sally fought was a drawn out battle in a sphere of air surrounded by oceans. Before a mistake poisoned the ocean, Sally took away roughly 30% of the boss's HP. Because of some basic physics that was included inside in the game, the water diluted the poison. After multiple casts of [Hydra] and other poisonous skills, the ocean's toxicity rose. The boss's remaining 70% HP would take roughly six in-game hours to drain away with this method. With a little trickery, Maple and Sally were able to end it three hours earlier than they expected.[7]
In the anime, only one Sea Emperor is shown. It was accessed after Kanade told Maple and Sally a riddle from a book that would direct them to an ancient structure with multiple fountains which is presumed to be the Ancient Heart. After the two filled the fountains with [Ocean] and [Hydra], they were teleported to a vacuum of air that was located underwater, in which they fight a giant squid with an extremely fast HP regeneration skill. Sally presumed that by attacking the main body, they would be able to damage it.[8] Maple later defeated the squid using this idea by continuously spewing poison with [Hydra] within the surrounding water, quickly killing the boss with the potency of the poison without much resistance.
Later, in an attempt to gain more medals, Sally initiated the event that was called the Massacre of the Sixth Day, creating a bloodbath out of all the players she encountered and eliminated. She would only gain two silver medals, much to her surprise.
Exchange Skills[]
These are some skills that were exchanged for gold and silver medals collected during the event.
- Fortress[9]
- Psychokinesis[10]
- Addition Blade[10]
- Light of the Spirits
- Resist All[10]
- Magic Powers Increment (魔力増強, lit. meaning Magic Augmentation)[10]
- Divine Swordsmanship (聖剣術, lit. meaning Holy Swordsmanship)[10]
- Dragonic Spear (龍槍, lit. meaning Dragon Spear)[10]
Third Event[]
Before the third event was released, sheep mobs were set to spawn for a period of time. A player could acquire a skill called [Shear] that would allow them to collect wool from these sheep, such as the case with Kasumi.[11] The wool they gathered could later be used to make outfits that would help during the upcoming event.
Plot[]
When the third event was launched, cow mobs were spawned for the duration of the event. The guilds would be later given the objective of defeating cows which will drop cowbells upon elimination, which is an uncommon drop. They would collect these cowbells, which would accumulate points that would be rewards for both individual and guild play. Wool-based clothing raised the drop rate of cowbells.[12]
During the event, Maple encountered a demonic boss in an abandoned church that was presumably the same church in her quest that made her obtain [Loving Sacrifice], later defeating the boss in its second phase by eating its insides after her avatar was swallowed whole. She gained the ability [Oozing Chaos] and its monstrous sub-skills.
Final Ranking[]
- 1st: Congregation of the Holy Swords
- Points: 1,578,228
- Cowbells: 180,667
- 2nd: Kingdom of the Flame Emperor
- Points: 1,002,765
- Cowbells: 92,502
Guild Rewards[]
- Stuffed Cow Head
- Guild members receive STR +3%.
The Stuffed Cow Head was the most valuable reward a guild could obtain. There is a speculation that the event stipulation requires the top ten guilds to be able to collect the most cowbells. Points and cowbells were unrelated since some guilds acquired more cowbells disproportionate to the number of points they have acquired. This may be why Maple Tree received the Stuffed Cow Head despite not being ranked in one of the top ten guilds.
Individual Rewards[]
- Counter[13]
Fourth Event[]
The fourth event was a competition between guilds, a competition to obtain the most amount of orbs within the accelerated days in-game. Despite the amount of guilds bickering against each other, the event was rather a fight between the three most feared in NewWorld Online: Maple Tree, Congregation of the Holy Swords and Kingdom of the Flame Emperor.
The competition was held on a map specifically prepared for the event. Two hours real time would be accelerated to five days in-game. However, unlike other events, this event had a specific list of rules unique to itself that were obligatory to be followed by its participants.[14]
Event Rules[]
- Players cannot join late or retire early.
- Players who have no guilds can participate. They will be drafted into temporary guilds.
- Players shall be transported to their respective locations where their guilds will defend their orbs. The locations shall vary in size and accessibility. Smaller guilds shall have more difficult to access and secluded bases making them easier to defend, while larger guilds shall be assigned to defend in a mostly open areas.
- Guilds receive 1 point for every 6 hours they defend their orb. Smaller guilds receive 2 because of the difficulty.
- Guilds receive 2 points for stealing an orb and keeping it at their base for 3 hours. The guild who lost their orb will lose 1 point. After 3 hours passes, the orbs are automatically return to their guild.
- Guilds lose 3 points if their orb was stolen by a smaller guild.
- Larger guilds lose 2 points if their orb was stolen by a medium guild.

- 2nd death: All status reduced by 15%.
- 3rd death: All status reduced by 30%.
- 4th death: All status reduced by 50%.
- 5th death: Retired from the event.
Plot[]
The in-game five day event was reduced to roughly three days due to the antics of Maple Tree. Guilds that were small or disorganized were quickly eliminated as their members all reached the five death penalty. Though medium-scale guilds survived the initial crushing, Sally's cunning strategies, which involved the scouting of said guilds, and sowing chaos among them, and making them fight each other, quickly wiped them out as well.
However, Maple Tree's plan to reserve [Atrocity] until later was hesitantly abandoned due to a surprise assault by the Congregation of the Holy Swords against them. The large-scale guild failed to secure Maple Tree's orbs, however, as they were utterly crushed by the beast that is Maple assuming the form of a monster.
Before other guilds would become aware of Maple's destructive skill, they've gone out onto a violent offensive, taking advantage of her current form. Maple and her guild members traveled from guild to guild, instilling fear, panic and mass destruction as she hastily collected orbs which would later add up to their overall score, causing confusion in the battle field as players wondered if there was some kind of error or glitch in the event, having a boss level monster rampaging through.
To prevent their own guild from being knocked out from the rankings, Maple Tree opted to eliminate other guilds by mass casualty, thus eliminating their orbs with their owner guilds, so that no other guilds can gain points from them.
Massacres occurred multiple times and death counts rose at an accelerated pace. As more and more guilds were eliminated, the Kingdom of the Flame Emperor was forced to aggressively assault the remaining large guilds into extinction to avoid falling out of the top ten ranking.
Finally, Sally and Kanade combined [Shadow Split] and [Phantom World] respectively, making six more clones of Maple's demon form. More chaos ensued afterwards and before the third day finally ended.
An archive recap of the event highlights were shown shortly after, by the developers, which exhibited mostly of Maple and her guild mates.

This includes skills like [Meditation], [Heal] and [Battle Healing] and also items like potions. The jungle also disabled unique passive effects, such as the case with Chrome's armor.[19]
According to the management team, this event was a means to acquire valuable materials and also some useful skills.[19]
Plot[]
In the jungle, Maple and Payne defeated a huge Queen Bee and received a crowns, that were wore in the accessory slot, that increases MP. They also obtained a few jars of honey.[20] Meanwhile, Sally was able to acquire the skill [Web User I] in a close fight against a giant spider.[21]
Near a large twisted tree, there is a magic circle that sends people to a forest boss area. The boss is a tall humanoid-shaped plant creature, which holds a wooden staff. Defeating the boss is supposed to give some kind of MP improvement skill. Maple and Payne defeats it together before she leaves the jungle. Shortly after, Chrome, Kanade, Marx, and Misery appear and assists the two defeat the boss.[22]
This group of five is joined by Mii outside a moss-covered ruin and they proceed down a long staircase before reach a transforming maze filled with countless traps (including the instant death kind). With the help of Kanade's memory they were able to easily navigate the maze and reach the boss Skeleton King.

During the main events, guilds were teleported together to various areas depending on how they placed in the preliminaries. They had to fight boss monsters to get medals which they could exchange to get skills and gear. The monsters at night were tougher and the event got harder as the three days progressed. This included seperation via teleportation, lack of messaging and fog on the second day and the map shrinking and taking out players. It ended with Demon Queens taking over the map and a large boss to take out on the final day.
