Marx (マルクス), or Markus, is a player in NewWorld Online and a supporting character in the BOFURI series. He is a member of the Kingdom of the Flame Emperor[1] guild and ranked eighth in the 1st event.[2]
Description[]
Marx is a thin guy with gray hair and black eyes. His bangs cover his right eye. He wears a black and white robe.[1]
Personality[]
Although Marx is a defeatist by nature, with the emotional support of those in his guild, he doesn't give up even when his traps are useless.
Plot[]
Guild Competition Arc[]
As Marx and Misery defend their base, a robed figure with a hood kept setting off Marx's traps. As he set up more traps he knew would be triggered shortly after, Marx felt more down than he normally would.[2]
When Maple brought the twins to attack the Kingdom of the Flame Emperor, Marx's traps showed little effect. Knowing about Maple's defense and poison, several traps were set up to delay and bind her, but they were quickly overcome with the twins and [Predator] at her disposal. Though Mii was able to come back and help them overcome the situation, Maple revealed an unknown ability and efficiently dealt with Marx and Misery.[3]
During the chaos when their guild was under siege, and Marx's traps were removed, word of Maple's likely arrival made Marx all but give up.[4]
Marx was friends listed by Maple after the guild competition event and attended the Maple Tree after party.[5]
Rulership Arc[]
During the jungle exploration event, Kanade and Marx appeared near each other and teamed up since they had the same goal. Marx fully used his traps, and Kanade used his support skills as they easily defeated enemies who fell victim to their combination.[6]
Kanade and Marx met with Chrome and Misery at the base of the tree just before the boss Maple and Payne were defeated before Maple logged off. On their way to the boss, they met with Payne and decided to form a group of 5. Once they defeated the boss, they headed toward the ruins and picked up Mii. They solved a shifting room puzzle inside the ruins and defeated the skeleton king boss.[7]
Companions Arc[]
Marx, Misery, and Shin stumbled upon Maple as she was leveling up Syrup. After spotting some changes to Syrup, they decided to show off their pets. Marx's pet was a color-changing chameleon.[8]
Eighth Event Arc[]
During the second day of the main event, he was forced to team up with Iz they conquered a dungeon together and helped to reunite the group. He then joined Dred, Mai and Yui to take down a dungeon, avoided most of the monsters thanks to Shadow and took down a large Electric Catfish boss. On the third day, the three guilds took down Cthulhu together.
Skills and Equipment[]
Marx is a trap specialist who has been seen using traps regularly. Both kinds are seen in his traps, whether offensive or control spells. His traps were helpful for all the Events he participated in.[9] Though his abilities are impressive, they don't interact well with Maple.[1]
At some point, he is also observed to use projectiles like Kunai.
Active Skills[]
- Remote Location ・ [spell]:[10] A skill that sets up a trap based on the given spell.
- Secret Flower:[11] A skill surrounding the user's party with a vine with a white flower blooming over the top. Those inside become undetectable to monsters for 30 seconds. They must not be visible to the monsters when the skill is used, and there is a hefty price.
- Holy Chains:[12] A skill that creates yellow-colored magic circles around the target that unleash glowing white chains to surround the target. The target cannot move, or their skills are sealed for 3 seconds.
