Kanade (カナデ Kanade) is a player of NewWorld Online and a major character in BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense..
He first appears in the second Event alongside his newly acquired weapon, the Akashic Records.
He later joins Maple Tree when Maple invites him.
Appearance[]
A boy is often mistaken for a girl because of his fair build. He has red eyes and curly red hair about the same length as Maples'.[1]
Personality[]
He is sensitive and indecisive. He thinks like everyone else, but his great memory gets in the way of interacting with others. His eating and sleeping pattern is a mess.[1]
Kanade is quiet and clever, showing a fascination with puzzles and mysteries of every kind. He will usually devote an entire day to any task he finds interesting.
Plot[]
Being quite adept in his own right, he is on par with Sally as one of the best tacticians in their guild. He is also shown to be quite able to defeat several other guilds, all by himself, managing to acquire three orbs at the 4th Event.
With the mastery of his chosen weapon, he has effectively exploited a mechanic which gives him access to a random skill or ability, which, when possible, he takes advantage of before it changes in 24 hours. Some may be useless, but when an opportunity to exploit an ability comes, he takes advantage of it, even at times saving the spells in Magic Records for later use.

A red-haired boy dressed in matching red-and-white scholarly gear. He constantly looks tired, but that doesn't seem to diminish his quick wit.
History[]
Kanade had the most enjoyable time with Maple at the seaside during the second Event. For him, going out and having fun with her is the most basic action he can take (like breathing).[1]
Even though Maple continues to ask for Othello matches time and again, Kanade is still undefeated. While playing Othello with her, he's mentally been playing the guess their next move game and has never won it once.[1]

- Flare Accel: A skill that causes flames to explode at the user's feet and accelerates their movement.
- Steel Arms: User summons an armed fist of steel that punches out at a target, causing damage. With akashic records, Kanade can summon multiple arms.
- Shadow Stitching:[s 3] Shadows bind enemies in a target area.
- Black Smoke:[s 4] Conjures black smoke in an area to obstruct vision.
- Phantom World!:[s 5] Creates a single clone of the target for 3 minutes. Paired with three akashic records, Kanade can make two more clones simultaneously.
- Paralyze Laser:[s 2] A limited-range, low-power laser blast spreads throughout the air in an even layer. Though the damage is low, those affected by it have a high chance of paralysis.

Equipment[]
Iz created his armor, granting the wearer increased INT and MP. The picture above includes this armor.
He acquired his staff during the second Event. It is often shaped like a Rubik’s Cube but can transform into a staff form. It bears the skill Akashic Record in addition to its stat effects. The staff later acquired the Magic Record skill after he completed another puzzle. There should be a third puzzle left to solve.
- Akashic Records (or God Archive)[2]:
- Anime: Grants a random skill to the user using it daily.
- WN: Acquire a total of 9 skills, three randomly from each: production skills, combat skills, and other skills. Skill level is fixed or V. The skills disappear after a day, and the skills chosen will not include the day before.
- While it is unknown if the moderators will later put a cap limit on how many times a player may gain this equipment, Kanade currently has solved for himself 3 of these, which allows him to make multiple copies of a spell he has gained randomly.
- Magic Record (or Spell Stash)[3]: You can save magic or skills that use MP as magic books in a special bookshelf. The saved magic and skills become unusable until their magic book is expended. Creating a magic book costs twice as much MP as its casting cost, and it takes 30 minutes per skill. There is no cast time to use a magic book.
- Skills granted by Akashic Records can be stored if they meet the Magic Record requirements. The same limitations on use apply. Furthermore, the magic books are kept even after the day ends. After the day resets, newly chosen skills sharing the spot of one stored as a magic book are not restricted from use. If you randomly acquire a skill still stored as a magic book, it faces the same limitation on use as if you had just stored it.

- There was some confusion over his gender, given his somewhat neutral presentation, before people who've read ahead and translated the Web Novel clarified that he is a boy.[1][5]
- Kanade's companion is a slime, Kanade has a androgynous accent and is English dubbed by Brittney Karbowski, who played "Rimuru Temest" who is powerful Slime monster who is a reincarnated human and the protagonist of the series "That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime".
