Defense and Spoils of War is the fifth episode in the Bofuri anime series.
Summary[]
Kasumi picks a fight against Sally and Maple, but uses Super Speed to escape, but is pursued by Sally and Maple frantically chases after them.
Far from the oasis, Kasumi and Sally briefly skirmish until Maple arrives and unintentionally creates a sand vortex leading to a cave where an indestructible chain binds them. A condition imposed on the chain enforces that if one player dies, the others will also perish. A temporary truce between Team Maple and Kasumi is formed until they can unbind themselves from the chain.
While exploring the cave, Maple finds a medal by accident, and later when they reach a multi-path area, they're ambushed by giant invincible snails. Using Kasumi and Sally's Super Speed and then Sally's Leap and one of Kasumi's sword skills, Arc Moon, manage to evade the snails.
Reaching the treasure room, it's decided that the three would share the treasure with each other.
Outside the dungeon, Kasumi formally apologizes for her actions and befriends Sally and Maple. From there on out, Maple's team collects many medals, and eventually, they meet the odd fellow named Kanade, who wields a mysterious cube. Before he leaves them, Kanade gives them a book containing a hint about a possible area where a medal could be collected. The area was a ruin with a dry fountain, and after solving the hint given to them, they found themselves underwater on a ruined stage. There, the giant squid boss appears with regenerative tentacles. Hence Maple uses her Hydra to poison the water surrounding the boss, which effortlessly it. Most of the game developers decide to ignore Maple's recent achievement, and one of them comments that she's more of a last boss than the last boss they made.
Afterward, Sally tells Maple to hide in a cave while she goes to collect the remaining two medals. Sally kills a sibling pair effortlessly with her amazing speed and later slays (she is comparable to a monster) a whole party. Meanwhile, Maple raises the levels of Syrup and Oboro by making them defeat low-leveled monsters. Once Sally returns with the remaining two medals, they're found by Kasumi, who was also hiding there. So to fortify their cave, Maple closes off the entrance to the cave using her Hydra. (No one is stupid to go into a poison cave)
After the event ends, Maple trades medals for skills in Psychokinesis and Acid Rain while Syrup learns Supersize. Maple then made Syrup float in the air and annihilated a group of monsters with Acid Rain.
