Chrome (クロム lit. Kuromu), is an adept player of NewWorld Online, since its first activation. His weapon of choice is the great shield and sword, which he still tries to master.
Appearance[]
He is an adult male with brown eyes and short brown hair. His large and muscular body makes armor more suitable than light clothing.[1]
In his first appearance, his armor is maroon, and he wields a similar-colored great shield with white markings. He also wears a headpiece that protects his forehead down until his jaw. He doesn't wear that much heavy armor, clad in a light brown garb underneath a breastplate. He has shoulder pauldrons and wrist gauntlets, underneath wearing black gloves.
For the lower part of his body, he wears black pants with matching maroon boots.
Personality[]
He is a caring and honest person who is open-minded and serious. Outside of combat, he gives off a strong parental vibe.[1]
Chrome is amiable and humorous. He is happy to help new users, as he introduced Maple to Iz. While he does have something of a competitive side to him, as he is shown to be self-conscious of how much Maple outshines him, his dedication and honesty far outweigh this, as he and Maple have been helping each other out for almost as long as Maple has been playing NewWorld Online.
Plot[]
He first witnesses Maple being attacked by numerous bugs and monsters on the first floor, sparking an online forum where they discuss and finds out information about her.
After Maple unexpectedly approaches him one next day, admiring his shield and hoping to find how she can acquire the same, though much to his surprise, he offers to introduce her to Iz, a crafter.
Although the primary person to notice how Maple's play style is unorthodox, to say the least, he eventually warms up to the idea. He completely surrenders to Maple's undeniable results, each instance showing a new and shocking skill or ability, which he wittingly discloses to his secret conversations with his friends on chat.
He finished in the top ten in the first event, claiming the ninth spot. After the addition of the guild system, he and Iz were later invited by Maple to join her guild, Maple Tree, which they happily accept.
Description[]
Chrome is very dedicated to advancing the great shielder meta, as he has remarked that he is "probably the number one player in terms of dying". A suspicious achievement, however, considering the length of time the game had been operating against how many deaths he had to have suffered throughout said time length.
Due to his new armor and ranking from the first event, he is more famous than he knows.[1]
Abilities[]
- Shield Attack:[2][3] A [STR] based attack with the users' shield. Knockback (small).
- Battle Healing:[2] While in combat, recover [HP +1%] every 10 seconds.
- Blazing Slash:[2] (alt. Flame Slash)
- Light of the Spirits:[4] The user nullifies damage they receive for 10 seconds. (medal skill)
- Stout guardian:[4] Great Shielder Exclusive Skill. Once a day, survive any lethal attack with 1 HP.
- Crystallize[5] Immune to bad status and [AGI] -50% for 1 minute. Cooldown: 3 minutes.
- Revitalize (活性化):[6] Medal skill; It buffed all of his recovery effects, which included ‘Battle Healing’s’ auto-heal and ‘Soul-Eater’s’ healing upon getting hit, ‘Life-Eater’s’ healing upon attacking, and ‘Soul Sucker’s’ healing upon blocking.
- Guard Aura (ガードオーラ): Increases defense. Other effects unknown
- Ghost Mud (死霊の泥): Your attacks have the added effect of 25% HP loss for 30 seconds. Cooldown: 1 minute.

- Soul Eater:[4] The user Recovers [HP +10%] every time they kill a monster or player.
- Dead or Alive:[4] When the users' HP reaches 0, there is a 50% chance of surviving with 1 HP instead.
- Life Eater:[4] The user recovers ⅓ of any damage the they inflict on another player.
- Soul Sucker:[4] The user recovers [HP +3%] whenever they receive damage.
Equipment[]
Chrome acquired his unique set from the Tomb of the Dead dungeon, which requires 1,000 deaths to enter. The boss is a giant skeleton who summons a skeleton legion and powers up near the end.[4][3]

Relationships[]
- Iz: She is the crafter he relies on for equipment and maintenance.
- Maple: Originally seeing her as an ordinary novice, he was blown away by her unorthodox rise in power and fame. Despite losing his thunder as a great shielder to her, Chrome sees her as a respectable ally and wishes to keep her aloof nature from becoming her downfall.
- Syrup: Though he belongs to Maple, Syrup takes a liking to Chrome and becomes a companion to him.
- May & Yui: Because of their size, stats, and lack of experience, Chrome has an older brother dynamic with the two sisters. He strongly desires to protect them in battle, often ordering them to stay near him.
- Sally: He's good friends with Sally but is a little apologetic after getting Necro

Trivia[]
- Based on the novels, Chrome has died more than 1,000 times within NewWorld Online because it is a requirement to access the Tomb of the Dead dungeon.[8]
- The anime implies he constantly uses the chat room at the end of each episode. Because the dialogue is only things he would say.
